COME RIDE WITH US!
Our 2010 scheduled trail rides are set as day rides with camping as an
option for all outings. Mike and/or Sharon will be camping on-site early
for folks that want to join us early or stay late.
Cyrus Grasslands Ride/Horse camp – Sat/Sun June 19 & 20
Approximately 40 miles north from Bend, close to Haystack Reservoir
outside of Madras. This is a small horse camp with trails into the
Grasslands. This is an early season ride where the ground should be dry
and the weather pleasant. Trail Chairs will be on site early to reserve
campsites and corrals for those that let us know they want them. Main
ride on Saturday, camp pot luck dinner and mixer after ride, all are
welcome to stay and attend. We are really hoping folks stay and campout
with us. Good times are planned. Pre-rides will take place in May to
finalize trails. For those you stay over there will be a Sunday ride as
well. Final course decisions and informational flyer will be provided in
May after pre-ride. Contact Mike or Sharon if you would like to
participate in the organization of this outing.
Located approximately 75 miles from Bend, next to Crescent Lake this
is a beautiful horse camp with several reserve able sites. We are
planning several ride options for this outing. Camp has water, corrals,
great trail options, toilets and large campsites. THIS CAMP MUST BE
RESERVED ahead of time. Crescent lake is across the street for swimming
or fishing when we are not riding. Pre-rides will take place in early
June, as soon as the snow melts. Final course decisions and
informational flyer will be provided in June as early as possible.
Anyone interested in joining us for the campout please let us know early
as we will reserve a block of campsites EARLY accordingly.
We are hoping to hold this ride at Sheep Springs, out of Sisters.
This is still pending as permits must be obtained from the National
Forest Service…More info on this ride soon.
In order to participate, please notify Mike Libby or Sharon
Nettleton, Co-Trail Chairs, by emailing Sharonn@bendbroadband.com
or Mike at horsehandler@ymail.com. If you are a family, please
list all family members and ages of children.
There are a few duties that you can help with to earn your volunteer
hours: registration/liability waiver, putting up signs, and riding
lead/drag for a second group. If you are willing to earn some volunteer
hours this way, notify me to see which roles are still available. Plenty
of roles for all.
Plan on bringing a picnic lunch as we will stop for a rest and snack on
the trail. You may want to bring a camera also as the terrain is
interesting and varied, Prepare for bugs and protect both your horse and
yourself with repellent, fly masks, etc. as the mosquitoes are reported
as fairly aggressive.
Information sheets and trail maps will be published as soon as the
pre-rides have been completed and routes finalized.
Mike and Sharon are very excited about Co-Chairing these trail events
and have good times planned for all. Both Sharon and Mike have extensive
trail and horse camping experience so if you are new or old at these
activities we hope to have you join us and are looking forward to
another wonderful riding season and making some great new RRR friends.
If you want to contact us please put “RRR Trails” in the subject
line on your emails so that we make sure and not miss you.
All trail rides will be posted in the Newsletter and on the
Calendar prior to the date, with times and meeting place listed.
When possible, a brief description of ride, length, degree of
difficulty, shoes required, water crossings and water
availability will be given.
RRR Trail Riding Guidelines and Trail Riding Etiquette and Leave No
Trace practices will be observed on all RRR Trail Rides. This
information is available on the RRR website as well as from the
Trail Chair. These guidelines will be presented in the annual spring
Getting Ready to Trail Ride workshop each April. These
guidelines help support appropriate risk management for RRR as an
organization as well as foster the safety and fun for all riders.
No dogs on RRR trail rides. Many trails now require dogs on leash
and some are posted no dogs on trail. In fairness to all, please
don't ask for an exception and please leave dogs at home.
Meeting times will vary based on weather, distance to trail head,
and length of days. Please meet one hour before the ride start time
so that you can complete the ride waiver, tack up and be in the
saddle at the R2R (ready to ride) time for that ride. Please email
or call the day ahead if you are planning to ride.
Each rider will be responsible for their own horse, tack, and
transportation. All ages are welcome, but children under 16
cannot be dropped off, or sent out without a parent or other
responsible adult accompanying the child for the duration of the
ride.
Riders are responsible for their own lunches, human & horse
water, first aid supplies, GPS or navigation devices, and feed
when applicable.
Same riding helmet rules apply on trails as at the arena;
however, helmets are recommended for all riders.
Know your horse's abilities: water crossings, bridges, kicker,
herd-bound, "chargey" -- be able to keep your horse under control
for the safety of other riders. No stallions. Prior to the
ride, inform the trail ride leader of any special situations or
needs.
Some rides may include optional
overnight camping, and camping is not required to participate in the
rides.
